Call For Demos

Call for Demos

Demos provide an interactive forum for authors to present their work to conference attendees and get feedback on it from the leading experts. The demo session provides an opportunity to interactively present research prototypes and works-in-progress as well as your best demos of the last year. Both independent demonstrations and those accompanying accepted papers and posters are welcome. Demo submissions should be submitted through our online system in the form of a maximum 4 minute video. At the conference we want the TIS participants to literally get in touch with your demos. Our main goal is to provide a forum for lively discussions and a hands-on experience.

This track at Interactive Tabletops and Surfaces is a forum for you to demo your cool new technologies and applications to all attendees at the conference's main reception. Demos are a central way of communicating your work to the community, using an interactive means. The demo session promises to be hands-on, interactive and fun.

Important Dates

Submission deadline for Demo Video: October 8, 2009
Acceptance notification: October 10, 2009
ITS 2009: November 23–25, 2009

Submission instructions

Your demo must be submitted via the PCS submission system. Submitted videos are for review purpose only and will not be published. However, successful submissions will be included on the ITS 2009 Conference DVD and will be archived in the ACM DL. The video submission should be no bigger than 75MB. There is a set time limit for the videos of 4 minutes. We realize that making shorter films is more difficult, but shorter films often transport the ideas better than longer ones.

Please make sure that your video is playable on standard PC and Macintosh computers.

  • The movie file should use a square pixel aspect ratio with a horizontal resolution of at least 640 pixels and at most 1280 pixels. Examples of acceptable pixel resolutions are 640×360 pixels, 640×480 pixels, 720×540 pixels, 1024×576 pixels, and 1280×720 pixels. If your piece is 720×480 pixels with an NTSC 0.9 anamorphic pixel-aspect ratio, please resize it to 640×480 pixels or 720×540 pixels to avoid your film being screened wider than it should appear.
  • Valid container file formats are Windows .avi and .wmv, QuickTime .mov, and .mp4.
  • Valid video codecs are DivX, XviD, H.264, Sorenson, MPEG-4, and WMV.
  • Valid audio codecs are uncompressed, AAC, AC3, and MP3.
  • Total compressed file size must be at most 75 MB.
  • Make sure the Total Run Time (TRT) listed on your online submission form is accurate.
  • If accepted, make sure the video has an ACM copyright notice as part of the video.
  • In all cases, make sure that you take your skis with to Banff.
